BFA CURATED PLAYLIST

Your Fine Art DSC is curating two playlist to cultivate creativity and we don’t want to do it alone!

EMAIL artf.dsc@asus.queensu.ca or DM on Instagram @fineartdsc :

  1. A song that motivates and energizes you

  2. A song that chills you out and lowers your stress

Our aim is to get everyone in our program to create something together that we can all share in hopes of feeling more connected during remote learning. We hope that each playlist’s songs will inspire creativity and drive you in working on your projects. Participation is key and it only takes a few seconds!

Game Night (September 19-26th, TBA)

The Fine Arts DSC will be hosting a Game Night virtually on Zoom for students to participate in and get to know other students. It's an opportunity to decompress from studying and have a bit of between-years socialization.

We are planning to host it in the third week of September, the exact date and time will be announced later after some polling. Game options include, but are not limited to Scribbl.io, Kahoot and Gartic Phone.

Additional game suggestions welcome through Instagram DMs @fineartdsc or the DSC e-mail artf.dsc@asus.queensu.ca

Group Study Sessions (Sept 27th- Oct 1st, TBA)

The Fine Arts DSC is in the process of organizing Group Study Sessions for students in the program.

They will be organized by subject material and can either be conducted via Zoom or using room bookings in Stauffer Library (pending regulations). The intake for being added to study groups will be done using a Google Form that will be circulated on the DSC Instagram page @fineartdsc and via e-mail.

Hour long sessions will be set up, and the dates will be fairly open, but we are aiming for the last week of September. Ideally these will be for the purpose of studying for classes that multiple students share in common which we hope will be especially helpful for anyone taking Art History.

Apparel Design Contest (September 30th & Onward)

The Fine Arts DSC is planning to open submissions for the apparel design contest by the end of September.

Submissions will either be sent in through an application form on the QVS website or via the DSC e-mail artf.dsc@asus.queensu.ca . You can include a few colours, but do stick to primary colours, black, white and grey. We are hoping to have the final design printed onto t-shirts, long sleeve shirts and fabric reusable face masks. We may decide to have a separate, more simpler design chosen for the reusable face masks. PNG or JPG files are usually the preferred format.

Additional information and rules about the designs and the competition will be released by the DSC on the Instagram @fineartdsc , QVS and via e-mail before the competition applications are opened.

"After Undergrad" Guest Speaker (October)

The Fine Arts DSC will be hosting our first guest speaker for the students to learn more about what career or additional education options might look like for you after your undergraduate degree. Guest speakers will include previous students of the Fine Arts Department here at Queen's University.

We are planning to chose a time that works best for the guest speaker. This being said, we will be hosting it outside of class time most likely, and will hopefully have enough flexibility with our guest to put out a poll on Instagram @fineartdsc and via e-mail for students to fill in the times that work for them.

This event is most likely to be held via Zoom to keep it as safe and accessible as possible for all students.
